    • A. No, people with hypertension, diabetes or heart deseases are at no greater risk of getting the coronavirus infection than anyone else.

  1. Q. Among people with diabetes, hypertension or Heart desease, is there an increased risk of severe illness or complications once infected with coronavirus?

    • A. In almost 80% of Covid-19 positive people, mild symptoms of a respiratory infection (fever, sore throat, cough) are observed and they get fully recovered. However, extra care is advised for these patients who develop more severe symptoms and complications.

  2. Q. Thank you Doctor for replying to queries regarding diabetes issue and Covid-19. Should i continue my existing medications during corona for diabetes & hypertension or not?

    • A. You need to make sure to take all medications prescribed regularly as before, even if you are mildly symptomatic. Do not stop any medication unless advised by your doctor.

    • A. Generally, people with uncontrolled diabetes are at increased risk of all infections and poorer outcomes once infected. To avoid this, follow your diet and exercise routine (to the extent possible), take your medications regularly and test your sugar levels frequently to keep your diabetes under control.

    • A. Research till date does not support this. Rather BP medications prevent heart failure by supporting your heart function and controlling high blood pressure. It is harmful to stop these medications by yourself. This can worsen your heart condition.
